Health & HIV/AIDS and Advocacy Programs

Our program therefore pursues a strategy that addresses social determinants of health to holistically support both adolescents and young people in addressing social impacts.

Mercy Compassionate Center in its approach takes cognizance of the existing gap between access to reliable, effective information and health seeking behaviors of the community.

We seek to contribute to the national and global goals of reducing new HIV/AIDS infections. Based on the Kenya AIDS Strategic Framework (2014-2019), our fight against the disease focuses on Community and school-based HIV prevention, awareness and stigma reduction.

Health, an integral part of every human being, is echoed by the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG)

Adolescents constitute a large proportion of Kenya's population. This has implications on the country's health and development agenda. Mercy Compassionate believes sexual and reproductive health care for adolescents and young people is essential in realizing their full potential.

To realize this goal, we focus on:

  • Strengthening health, information and advocacy services to offer young people the sexual and reproductive health care they need without judgment or biasness.
  • Empowering adolescents and youth to make their own informed decisions about their bodies and their future by changing community norms related to gender, adolescent sexuality, early marriage, and childbearing.
  • Supporting young women and first-time parents to delay their first pregnancy and space their births for the best health outcomes for mothers and children.
